Trade union activist
I have always believed that it is important for workers to be represented in the work place. So I take being part of a trade union very seriously.
During my time in the youth service in Bedfordshire I was the branch secretary for the Bedfordshire County Council branch of Unison. I built a reputation for fearlessly representing the interests of my members. This included negotiating over pay and conditions, representing individuals in grievance and disciplinary hearings, and campaigning for the interests of members and in support of public services.
I was also involved in the union at a national level and was chair of Unison’s National Youth and Community Workers Forum. In this role I was involved in national negotiations with senior civil servants and government ministers.
I am now a union representative for Unite at my current work place.
